How to Fundraise for the HER Foundation: Tips, Platforms, and Storytelling Ideas

The HER Foundation is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), a debilitating pregnancy complication. By fundraising for the HER Foundation, you can help provide vital research, resources, and support to those battling HG. Whether you’re directly affected by HG or want to raise awareness for a loved one, there are many ways to organize a successful fundraiser.

Choosing Your Fundraising Platform

There are a variety of platforms that make fundraising easy and accessible. Here’s how you can start a fundraiser on four popular platforms:

1. PayPal Giving Fund

PayPal offers a simple way to raise money for the HER Foundation through its Giving Fund. To get started:

  • Visit the HER Foundation’s PayPal Giving Fund page to make a direct donation or share the link.
  • Set up a personal fundraiser by linking your PayPal account to share with family, friends, and social networks. You can also encourage donations by linking PayPal on other platforms.

2. GoFundMe

GoFundMe is a great platform to share your story and connect with people who care about your cause.

  • Create your GoFundMe page and select the HER Foundation as the beneficiary. Personalize your fundraiser by explaining why HG awareness and support are important to you.
  • Share updates and progress throughout the campaign. Post pictures, share personal stories, and keep donors updated on how much has been raised.
  • Promote on social media with the GoFundMe link to reach a broader audience.

3. Facebook Fundraiser

Facebook’s fundraising tool allows you to share your cause with your social network easily.

  • Start your Facebook fundraiser by selecting the HER Foundation as the nonprofit. Add a compelling title and description that highlights your connection to HG.
  • Set a clear goal and add milestones, such as raising $500 by the end of the month.
  • Invite your friends to donate and share the fundraiser on their own pages to expand the reach.

4. Instagram Fundraiser

Instagram makes it easy to incorporate fundraising directly into your stories and posts.

  • Use Instagram’s ‘Donation’ sticker in stories and select the HER Foundation as the nonprofit. Every story you post can now help raise funds.
  • Post regularly about your journey to keep your audience engaged and aware. Use reels or carousel posts to share photos, updates, and encouragement to donate.

Fundraising Tips for Success

1. Set a Realistic Goal

While you may want to raise as much as possible, setting a clear and achievable goal can inspire more people to contribute. You can always adjust the target as your fundraiser progresses.

Goal Options:
  • $500
  • $1,000
  • $3,000
  • $10,000

2. Tell Your Story

Personal stories connect with donors on a deeper level. Here are a few ways to make your story more impactful:

  • Explain your connection to HG – Whether you experienced it yourself, supported a loved one, or want to advocate for better awareness, share your journey.
  • Share the impact HG has had – Describe the physical, emotional, and mental toll of HG. Sharing the difficulties brings awareness to the condition and gives your audience a reason to support your cause.
  • Highlight the work of the HER Foundation – Explain how the foundation helps families affected by HG, such as through funding research, providing peer support, or spreading awareness to the medical community.
    • Check out our Impact Report.

3. Utilize Visuals

Photos and videos can bring your story to life and draw more attention to your cause.

  • Share photos of your HG journey.
  • Videos explaining how the HER Foundation helped you or someone you know.
  • Graphics showing your fundraising progress, highlighting key statistics about HG, or sharing personal milestones.

4. Keep Your Supporters Updated

People love to see progress. Make regular posts about how close you are to your goal, share any exciting updates from the HER Foundation, or simply thank donors for their generosity.

5. Involve Others

Don’t be afraid to ask friends and family to share your fundraiser or donate. The more people you reach, the more likely you are to hit your goal. Create an “action week” where you encourage everyone to donate or share on specific days to increase momentum.

Fundraising with Your Story

Your personal story is one of the most powerful tools in fundraising. Here are some ways to frame it for maximum impact:

The Power of Your Why

Explain why fundraising for the HER Foundation is so important to you. Whether HG impacted you, someone close to you, or you’re passionate about advocating for mothers, donors are more likely to contribute if they understand why you care.

Describe the Challenges

HG is not “just morning sickness.” Share the details of how HG affects not only the mother but also the baby, family, and career. By shedding light on the often-untold stories of this condition, you’re educating others about the urgency of research and support.

Highlight the Difference Their Donation Makes

Let potential donors know that even small contributions can help fund research, education, and resources for families facing HG.

Examples of what a donation could pay for:
  • $10 – 1 provider packet or 2 posters
  • $20 – 1 month of our Crisis Phone Line
  • $50 – printing 200 patient brochures
  • $100 – 1 hour of designing new translations
  • $300 – 1 month of community support platform
  • $5000 – the fee for a booth at 1 conference

Start Fundraising Today

By fundraising for the HER Foundation, you are making a difference in the lives of people affected by Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Whether you use PayPal, GoFundMe, Facebook, or Instagram, every dollar raised supports life-saving research, education, and care.

Start your fundraiser today and help create a future where no mother suffers alone. Together, we can bring hope and change to families worldwide.
